Beware the Tinker

When wandering journeymen knock on your door
It's best to be nice to them lest they be dour.
These fellows who wander are known to have knives
And keeping them happy just might save some lives,
At least till you reach to the gun in your drawer
And drive them away, "Don't come back here no more!"

A salesman comes to my house
To make a pitch, quick as a mouse
The things he'll do are all quite extraordinary
From binding my tools to brushing my dromedary

Sadly, so sadly, he offers no device
There is no wisdom, no sage advice
To keep peddlers away from my home, safe and nice
Except for the Witness I've place there once or twice

I've found, as a rule, if you keep a guidepost
handy by the door, to hand them quickly
Before they can start,
The peddler will scurry right back to the cart.
