When a rat comes to your house
And makes herself at home
Is it best to shoo her out
Or just leave her alone?
And if the ladies like her,
Your wife and mum and sis,
Wouldn't it be better
To give that rat some bliss?
      {later}

So have yourself ice cream!
And try a tater chip.
Wait a sec, there's one more thing,
The French onion dip!

Sounds as if you're trying to kill the rat with cholesterol.

I'm not sure about the rat, but British comedian David Mitchell certainly has some thoughts (and doubts) about how best to deal with an unwanted mouse in your house.

Some of the ideas will surely apply to the rat...

Montfort,

I once saw my grandfather catch a mouse, step outside and stomp it to death. I was horrified at the time. "Why did you do that Grandpa? Why didn't you just let it go?" He realized what Mr. Mitchell picked up on. "He'll just come right back."

That said, I'm not at liberty to rid the house of the rat, as the womenfolk in question would surely frown on it most severely. And the thing is kind of cute if it isn't gnawing a hole in my jacket.
